Bulgaria Known & Unknown pearl of Eastern Europe

 

With area of 110,993.6 sq km and a population of almost 8 million people, Bulgaria is one of the most attractive countries on the Balkans. Situated in the heart of the so-called Balkan Peninsula, its strategic location has been favorable for its cultural development since a long time ago. Tourists from near and far love to visit this beautiful country especially during the summer because of the wonderful tourism opportunities it offers to its visitors.

 

As the largest Bulgarian city with population of almost 1.4 million people, Sofia is a capital city, situated in western Bulgaria. It is a large economic, cultural, administrative and educational centre with many attractions and interesting places to visit. Three magnificent mountain masses Rhodopi, Rilla and Pirin are located nearby as well as the smaller Vitosha Mountain.

 

From the geographical point of view, Bulgaria more than its neighbor countries deserves the name of the Balkan country since in its territory Stara Planina "Balkans" is located.

 

The famous European river Danube forms its natural north border with Romania. In the west Bulgaria borders on with Serbia and Macedonia, and in the south - with Greece and Turkey. In the east the Black Sea makes such coastal cities as Varna, Bourgas, Sozopol and resorts like Golden Sands, Albena and Sunny Beach extremely bustling during the summer season.

 

Bulgaria also offers rest opportunities for the lovers of winter sports. Such winter resorts as Bansko, Borovets and Pamporovo offer convenient hotels and appropriate equipment for their guests who would like to be a part of Bulgarian snow-white fairy-tale.

 

Tourists who would like to get acquainted with the local culture and traditions can enjoy the rural tourism in smaller but not less beautiful mountain cities and villages, like Kotel, Peshtera, Devin, Smolian, etc. The bigger centers with rich cultural and spiritual heritage are cities like Plovdiv and Veliko Tarnovo.

 

The official language of the country is Bulgarian, which is based on Cyrillic alphabet.

 

Although the traditional religion in Bulgaria is Eastern Orthodox Christianity, there is a religious freedom for other denominations.

 

March 3 is Bulgarian National holiday, when people celebrate the day of the Bulgaria’s Liberation from Ottoman yoke.

 

Bulgarian Lev is the monetary unit, used in country.

 

Bulgarian climate is moderate continental with influence from the Black Sea in the east and from Mediterranean in the south. The temperatures during the hottest summer days rise up till 105 F and may fall down till 1 F during the winter months.

 

There is an extremely diverse in Bulgaria flora and fauna. There are many nature parks, reserves and natural sights in the territory of the country. 

 

Bulgarian remains one of the most attractive European places for rest with the superb advantages like excellent sandy beaches, soft climate, possibility for mountain camping, etc. Bulgarian resorts have taken the leading position on popularity of family rest with children as really best and most favorable conditions for healthy long summer children's sea tour are created there.
